Boys' Game Preview: Magoffin County at Floyd Central
SALYERSVILLE - Following a promising preseason, Magoffin County will tip off the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season at Floyd Central on Monday, Dec. 2.
The Hornets compiled a 15-15 record during the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. Magoffin County missed out on advancing to the 2018-19 15th Region Boys' Basketball Tournament but pushed champion Johnson Central.
Freshman guard Aden Barnett (12.1 ppg) is the leading scorer back for the Hornets.
Other experienced players back for Magoffin County include senior center Randy Bailey (8.3 ppg), junior guard Isaiah Salyer (8.0 ppg) and junior forward Mason Lovely (4.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg).
First-year head coach Alan Joe Moore is preparing to guide the Jaguars. Moore replaced interim head coach Shawn Hager on the Floyd Central boys' basketball bench.
The Jaguars exited the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season 6-25.
Moore inherits a team which lost its top two scorers via either graduation or transfer.
Senior forward Brandon Little (8.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg) is the top player back for the Jaguars. Along with Little, Floyd Central is due to return junior guard Caleb Hager and freshman guard Braden Moore.
Floyd Central in the defending 58th District boys' basketball champion. The Jaguars topped county rival Prestonsburg in the 2018-19 58th District boys' basketball title game.
In addition to losing Brady Conn to graduation, Floyd Central lost Ethan Smith-Mills, a proven scorer who transferred to Martin County.
