Barnett leads Hornets over Betsy Layne, 92-64

Aden Barnett, pictured lofting a shot, recorded a triple-double to lead Magoffin County over Betsy Layne. 

 

SALYERSVILLE - Freshman guard Aden Barnett scored a game-high 30 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists to record a triple-double and lead Magoffin County over visiting

Betsy Layne 92-64 in a boys' high school basketball game on Saturday (Jan. 4).

With the win, Magoffin County improved to 7-4.

Betsy Layne stumbled to 9-4 with the loss. 

Excelling offensively, Magoffin County shot 55.9 percent (33-of-59) from the field. The Hornets were 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from 3-point range. 

Magoffin County shot 65.6 percent (21-of-32) from the free throw line. 

The Hornets took a lead out of each quarter and ultimately pulled away to win late. After a back and forth first half, Magoffin County led 27-25 at halftime. Adding to its lead shortly after the break,

Magoffin County led 53-45 at the conclusion of the third quarter 

Magoffin County won convincingly following its best single-game offensive performance thus far in the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season.

Barnett led a group of four Magoffin County scorers in double figures. Isaiah Salyer followed Barnett in the top offensive category, scoring 21 points for the Hornets. 

Randy Bailey recorded a double-double for Magoffin County, netting 16 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. 

Joining Barnett, Salyer and Bailey in double figures for the Hornets, Grayson Whitaker posted 10 points.

Ryan Henderson (six points), Lucas Litteral (four points), Mason Lovely (three points) and Patrick Damron (two points) combined to round out Magoffin County's individual scoring.
