Magoffin Track Participates at the KHSAA Regional Championships
Congratulations to the track & field team for their outstanding performance at the KHSAA 1A Regional Championships held at Russell High School on Saturday, May 13. Every athlete that competed brought home a medal! You must place in the top 6 to medal in an event. Eighteen schools competed including Magoffin County, Raceland, Morgan County, Paintsville, Menifee County, Pikeville, West Carter, Owsley County, Jenkins, Elliott County, East Ridge, Sheldon Clark, Fairview, Prestonsburg, Wolfe County, Shelby Valley, Lee County, and Jackson.
The girls team placed 7th overall and medaled in the following events: 4X800 meter relay team placed 5th place- Kirsten Sparks, Shelia Collins, Kaitlin Downing and Natalie Gasparac; 100 meter dash- 4th place- Reagan Crase; 4X400 meter relay team placed 3rd – Shay Blanton, Kenlee Wireman, Kaelyn Greene, and Natalie Gasparac; 4X100 meter relay team placed 4th- Reagan Crase, Shay Blanton, Kenlee Wireman and Kaelyn Green; 4X200 meter relay team placed 4th- Kenlee Wireman, Shay Blanton, Kaelyn Greene, and Reagan Crase; Shot Put-6th place- Destiny Conley, and 300 meter hurdles-3rd place- Reagan Crase. In the 800 meter run Natalie Gasparac placed 8th with Kirsten Sparks finshing 14th. In the 200 meter Kirsten Sparks finished 19th. In the shot put Destiny Conley placed 8th with Kaelyn Greene in 12th. In discus throw Kenlee Wireman captured 12th. In the long jump Kaitlin Downing finished 14th
The boys team placed 15th overall and medaled in the following events: 4X800 meter relay team-6th place-Justin Cantrell, Samuel Darnell, Elijah Rudd and Caleb Porter and triple jump- 6th place-Trenton Taulbee. Sam Darnell placed 23rd in the 1600 m and 15th the 800 meter. Trenton Taulbee placed 18th in the 200 meter dash. In shot put, Elijah Rudd captured 11th and Caleb Porter finished 16th while in discus throw Elijah finished in 8th and caleb in 12th. Trenton Taulbee finshed 11th in long jump. Justin Cantrell finished 12th in high jump. Reagan’s 300 meter hurdle time of 52.51 earned her a spot at the KHSAA 1A State Championships to be held at the University of KY Track on Saturday, May 20 with her evenat 12:05 pm. Congratulations to the team for a great season and to Reagan for making it to the state championships.
