Magoffin County headed back to gridiron
SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County High School football team will open preseason practice following the conclusion of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Dead Period. The Justin Combs-coached Hornets will be preparing to visit East Carter for a season opener when practice opens later in the month.
Magoffin County is slated to kick off the 2018 high school football season on the road at East Carter on August 17.
In addition to East Carter, Magoffin County has away games scheduled at Harlan (Sept. 14), Morgan County (Sept. 28), Knott County Central (Oct. 5) and Breathitt County (Oct. 19). The Hornets are due to host Lawrence County (Aug. 24), East Ridge (Aug. 31), Betsy Layne (Sept. 7), Powell County (Sept. 21) and Estill County (Oct. 12) for home games.
The Hornets have conducted various workouts throughout the offseason.
Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 7. The Hornets concluded the 2017 season 2-8.
High school football teams throughout the state will take field for season-openers in August. Kickoff for each of Magoffin County's games in the 2018 season is slated for 7:30 p.m.
