Lady Hornets fall to Pike County Central

SALYERSVILLE - Magoffin County missed a chance to return to the win column during its April 2018 debut. Visiting Pike County Central managed to outlast the Lady Hornets 11-10 in eight innings in a non-district high school softball game on Thursday (April 5).

With the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 2-4.

Pike County Central improved to 4-2 with the win.

The Lady Hornets trailed throughout the first six and a half innings. Pike County Central led 6-0 before Magoffin County plated its first two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. 

With Pike County Central leading 10-9, Magoffin County pushed across one run in the bottom half of the seventh inning to tie the game. 

The Lady Hawks pushed across one run in the top half of the eighth inning and held Magoffin County scoreless in the home portion of the frame to claim the hard-fought win.

Magoffin County outhit Pike County Central 12-10 but committed five errors. 

Kayleigh Thomas led Pike County Central at the plate, finishing 3-for-4. 

Sydnee Lowe, Emily Baker, Summer Marcum and Skylar Stumbo added two hits apiece for the Lady Hawks in the victory. Marcum provided three RBIs while Baker drove in two runs. 

Three Pike County Central pitchers worked during the non-district matchup. Thomas tossed one inning and earned the win. 

Holly Handshoe and Bethany Joseph pitched for the Lady Hornets. Handshoe tossed 4.2 innings and took the loss. 

Morgan Wilson led the Lady Hornets' offensive attack. Wilson was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. 

Brooklyn Poe and Emilee Bailey added two hits apiece for the Lady Hornets in the victory. 

Erin Bolen, who connected for one hit, also drove in three runs for homestanding Magoffin County. 

In addition to Bolen for the Lady Hornets, Audrianna Blanton, Samantha Black, Jaime Collins and Alexis Montgomery chipped in one hit apiece.
