Lady Hornets drop season opener to Pike County Central

BUCKLEYS CREEK - The Magoffin County volleyball team dropped its season opener on the road on Monday. Host Pike County Central, a 15th Region counterpart, blanked visiting Magoffin County 3-0 in a high school volleyball season opener. 

The Lady Hornets struggled early as Pike County Central pulled away to win the first game 25-3.

Magoffin County fared better in the second game. But Pike County Central still prevailed, pulling away to win 25-11.

The Lady Hornets pushed homestanding Pike County Central in the third game before eventually falling short. The Lady Hawks pulled away to win 25-15 in the third and decisive game of the non-district high school volleyball match. 

Magoffin County is under the direction of head coach Tammy Prater. The Lady Hornets compete in the 57th District, one of four districts within the 15th Region. 

Currently, Magoffin County's roster features the following players: Katie Bauer (Sr.), Jordan Caudill (Jr.), Destiny Conley (Jr.), Tana Conley (Jr.), Tori Conley (So.), Madison Gullett (Sr.), Nancy Howard (Jr.), Bethany Joseph (Jr.), Katelyn Lanning (Sr.), Macey May (Jr.), Emily Prater (Jr.), Mandee Risner (Jr.) and Shasta White (Jr.).

High school volleyball teams throughout the state opened their 2017 seasons earlier in the week. 

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Pike County Central for a return match on Sept. 11.
