Hornets to host Paintsville for scrimmage

SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County football team is set to take the field for the first of two scrimmages. The Hornets are scheduled to entertain Paintsville in a scrimmage at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. 

Magoffin County opened preseason practice on Tuesday, July 10. The Hornets are under the under of head coach Justin Combs.

Magoffin County concluded the 2017 season 2-8 and missed out on advancing to the Class 3A State Playoffs. 

A contender for the Class A state title, Paintsville opened its preseason practice on Tuesday, July 10 as well. The Tigers are under the guidance of head coach Joe Chirico. Paintsville ended the 2017 season 11-2, falling to district rival Raceland in the Class 1A, Region 3 championship game. Paintsville is the reigning Class 1A, District 6 Champion. 

Following the scrimmage versus Paintsville, Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Sheldon Clark for a preseason matchup on Friday, Aug. 10.

Magoffin County is slated to kick off the 2018 high school football season on the road at East Carter in a non-district matchup on Friday, Aug. 17. The Hornets' 2018 regular-season schedule includes additional games versus Lawrence County, East Ridge, Betsy Layne, Harlan, Powell County, Morgan County, Knott County Central, Estill County and Breathitt County.
