Fire destroys Royalton house

ROYALTON – A house was destroyed by fire late Sunday night, but crews were able to save the adjacent building, known as the old Royalton Flower Shop.

Close to midnight on October 7 a neighbor reportedly heard a transformer blow and called in the fire.

Scott Stephens with the District 3 Volunteer Fire Department told Mortimer Media Group that when crews arrived the flames were coming out of the roof.

The house was located directly next to the old flower shop, which crews were able to spare, but the house was a total loss. Reportedly, no one was living in the home and no electricity was running to the structure at the time of the fire.

South Magoffin Volunteer Fire Department rendered mutual aid.

The cause and origin of the fire has not been determined at press time, but is still under investigation.
