Echoing Progress

In Tuesday night’s regularly-scheduled Magoffin County School Board meeting the Magoffin County Community Foundation presented a check for $10,000 to the school system to use as the board sees fit, with Scotty Patrick (via telephone) recommending they use it for technology. The school system teamed up with the Community Foundation earlier this year for the Echo Showcase, which raised $820 and the Community Foundation matched, putting the money raised into an Echo fund, which is available for a charitable purpose to be chosen by the students. Patrick explained that the project went so well that they would like to continue the partnership with the school system, offering many of the students showcased at the April event a two-hour slot at the upcoming Community Day and student volunteers (for scholarship opportunities) will be used to help the various charities participating in the event.
