PAINTSVILLE – Two people from Magoffin were arrested in Paintsville Monday on drug-related charges.

According to a release from the Paintsville Police Department, law enforcement responded to a call regarding syringes found in a hotel room at the Ramada Hotel.

Hotel staff told police that a male and female stayed in the room for one night and complained about the room, so they were moved to another room.

Police found the couple in the other room and received consent to search, resulting in law enforcement reportedly confiscating 12 grams of a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, two different prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia and over $5,000 in cash from the hotel room.

Laci J. Pennington, 34, and Brian J. Tucker, 38, both of Salyersville, were arrested and taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where they remain at press time.

Pennington is charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (first offense, greater than two grams methamphetamine); third-degree possession of a controlled substance; and drug paraphernalia buy/possess.

Tucker is facing the charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (first offense, greater than two grams methamphetamine) and drug paraphernalia buy/possess.

The two were scheduled for an arraignment in their felony cases for Wednesday morning, though the results of the hearings are not known at press time. No other court date has been scheduled at this time.

Officers on scene were Officers Stapleton and Maynard and Sgt. Ramey, all with Paintsville Police Department
