Crash closes Mountain Parkway: Road reopens after being closed about two hours
By Steve LeMaster
MAGOFFIN COUNTY - A wreck on Tuesday evening closed the Mountain Parkway.
The Mountain Parkway was closed between mile points 72 and 75 near Salyersville for about two hours on Tuesday evening.
The wreck occurred when a dump truck hit a mobile home that was being moved. At least one person was taken to the hospital as a result of the crash.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) and the Magoffin County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the wreck.
The Mountain Parkway Expansion continues. The project will create a wider, safer connection between Eastern Kentucky and the rest of the state while widening 30 miles of the existing parkway from two lanes to four lanes and extending the parkway another 16 miles between Salyersville and Prestonsburg.
When the parkway expansion is completed, the Mountain Parkway will run more than 90 miles between Interstate 64 and US 23 in Eastern Kentucky. The project will complete a four-lane, high-speed route across the length of the state – from Paducah to Pikeville.
