PIKEVILLE – The federal court judge granted a continuance for the trial of Howard Harlow Back, 75 of Salyersville, for August 6.

SALYERSVILLE - A worker at the Magoffin County Senior Center was honored at the Magoffin County Health Department last Thursday as the Mature Worker of the Year.

FRANKFORT - Teachers are regularly tested to make sure they’re qualified to instruct students. Principals and superintendents are too. And students themselves are tested an re-tested. But not the people who have the power to make the biggest decisions in local schools: school board members.

SALYERSVILLE - The Magoffin County School Board met last Thursday, discussing construction and demolition, as well as bus driver policy and a treasurer appointment.

 SOFTBALL STARS: Miss Jasmine (Jazzy) Howard and Miss Julieann Helton were chosen to the 2012 15th Region All-Tournament Team for softball from Magoffin County High School.  Jazzy is an eighth grader, and Julieann is a senior.

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Conservation officers with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will team with law enforcement agencies at the federal, state and local level for Operation Dry Water June 22 through June 24. 
 
 

 CULTURE:  Mitch Barrett, a native Kentuckian, performed at South Magoffin Elementary on April 17th and 18th. He is a singer, songwriter, and Lyrical storyteller. His performances consist of traditional Appalachian stories and songs. He is the 2009 telluride Troubadour and 2 X Merlefest winners. He gave an enthralling performance.
