Fannie Prater Shepherd age 88 of Birch Branch Road, Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 at her home.
Fannie was born December 12, 1923 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Abe and Dona Bailey Prater. She was a member of the Cow Creek Church of God.
Fannie was united in marriage to Johnny Shepherd whom precedes her in death.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Christopher Randall Salyer age 32 of Combs Branch Road, Salyersville, passed away on Saturday September 17, 2011 at his home.
Christopher was born May 10, 1979 in Floyd County, KY; the son of Patty Bently and Randy Salyer and step-mother Susie Salyer.  He was employed as a maintenance worker at Magoffin County Housing.
Survivors include his parents; one brother, Jimmy Randall Salyer of Salyersville, Kentucky and one sister, Misty Francis of Salyersville, Kentucky.

Bertha M. Salyer Clabaugh age 59 of Knox, Indiana formally of Magoffin County, Kentucky passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 at her home. She was born February 8, 1952 in Athens, Indiana to the late Woodrow and Vergie (Hopkins) Salyer.
She is survived by one daughter: Michele (Talbert) Marshall of Arkansas; one son: Joshua (Cara) Arnett of Indiana; one sister: Janet (Jerry) Button of Indiana; three brothers: Edgar Salyer, James R. (Sue) Salyer and Eugene Salyer all of Indiana and six grandchildren Kayla, Shawn, Christina, Aubrie, Chloe and Kyleigh.

Lydia Gayle Arnett, Age 76, a resident of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Kings Daughters Medical Center at Ashland, Kentucky.
Lydia Gayle was born March 1, 1935 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Glenn and Jessie Irene Patrick Prater. Lydia was a homemaker and a member of the Prater Memorial Methodist Church.

Charles Douglas Hampton age 75 of Bradenton, Florida formally of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Friday, September 9, 2011 at his home in Bradenton, Florida.
He was born July 7, 1936 in Johnson County, Kentucky to the late Richard and Pauline Holbrook Hampton.

Alvin C. Ratliff age 64 of Middle Fork, Kentucky passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 in Johnson County, Kentucky. Alvin was born February 4, 1947 in Paintsville, Kentucky, the son of the late Elmer and Roberta Cantrell Ratliff. Alvin was a coal miner and a member of the Right Middle Fork United Baptist Church.

A Royalton man was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property under $10,000 after allegedly selling stolen copper wire and copper radiators from an old Magoffin grade school.

In a joint effort of city and county, the electric for Salyersville Water Works and Salyersville Water and Sewer will not be disconnected in the near future.

A Johnson County woman was arrested last Monday on drug trafficking charges during a traffic stop at Tick Lick Creek Cemetery Road in Magoffin.

The Magoffin County Board of Education met in regular session Tuesday night with a quiet large crowd.
