Pills, cash found during drug raid

Acting on a tip of possible drug activity, the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Department found a wide variety of prescription pills and a large amount of cash at an undisclosed location during a raid Thursday night.

Election challenger request fails

What had the initial appearance of a sure challenger thing quickly turned into a dead issue and left some in the Magoffin County Democrat Party wondering exactly what happened.
A required percentage (25 percent) of Democrat candidates initially signed on in favor of having a challenger at each voting precinct during May’s primary election, but at least six of those had their names removed soon after the list was presented to the party’s chairman..

Coroner races competitive on both sides

Sheriff's department on the lookout for youthful safety

Young, safety conscious followers of the rules of the road will soon be targeted by the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Department.
And those doing no wrong will be at risk of receiving tickets. But these are the types of tickets any youngster will find useful.
“They are safety tickets and they will be given to younger people,” Sheriff Bob Jordan said. “When I see people, or one of my deputies sees someone practicing safe driving, safety in the park, or anything like that we will issue them a ticket.”

Magoffin County man arrested following stand-off with police

Ronnie Ward, 49, of Salyersville was arrested Sunday night at his mother’s residence on Lick Creek following a stand-off with police.
According to Magoffin County Sheriff Bob Jordan, the incident started at approximately 8 p.m. when Ward reportedly threatened his mother with a firearm..
Police eventually took Ward into custody at 10:15 p.m. and charged him with first degree wanton endangerment.
Ward, a police report said, had his mother inside of the residence holding her against her will and threatening to do bodily harm.
