Mrs. Cathy Salyer's 3rd grade classroom at the Salyersville Grade School have been studying volanoes. All students brought in their own model of a volcano and demon strated how a real volcano erupts.

Rescue squad now in 36th year of service

With a grand total of $225 to work with, an upstart Magoffin County Rescue Squad was in search of some much needed equipment during a 1975 used boat auction at the Jenny Wiley Marina.

On Friday, February 5, 18 Magoffin County women attended the “GO Red for Women” event at Ramada Inn in Paintsville to bring attention to cardiovascular disease, which is the largest killer among women in the United States.

Fiscal court accepts pool bid, approves roads proposal

The Magoffin County Fiscal Court had little to choose from Thursday in selecting a bid for the refurbishing of the Ramey Memorial Park pool.

Spring break now make-up as board battles calendar

Spring may bring a break in the snowy weather, but it won’t come with a break for local students and school employees.

Feb. 18 – Morgan County at Magoffin County 7:30 p.m. (senior night)
Feb. 22 – Magoffin County vs. Paintsville (district tournament at Lawrence Co.)

Magoffin County falls to regular season champs

Magoffin County’s strong second half made for a respectable conclusion, but not a completely successful one.
After falling behind by double figures in the first half, the Lady Hornets enjoyed a five-point scoring advantage over the final two quarters but eventually lost 59-52 to 57th District regular season champion Sheldon Clark Friday night.
The Lady Cards, finishing regular season district play at 8-0, led by five after the opening quarter and owned a 33-21 advantage heading into the halftime break.
