Jazzy Howard won 1st place Individual Best All Around Dancer 4th thru 8th grade. Jazzy is a fourth grader at Salyersville Grade School.

Students in Mrs. Lea Ann Chapman’s 1st grade class have been busy studying about graphs during their math class. Their teacher incorporated the use of M& M candy to make the lesson more appetizing for these youngster. They used the candy to create a bar graph. Once the bar graph was completed and checked, students were allowed to eat their math lesson.
The Christian Youth Club at Herald Whitaker Middle School recently gathered medical supplies to send with a team from Fitzpatrick Baptist Church in Prestonsburg, KY who were traveling to Haiti the first week in February. Students brought in supplies from a list given to them. With their inside horse saddled by early foul difficulty, the Johnson Central Golden Eagles found Saturday’s John Sam Bailey Memorial Gymnasium going tough.
A couple hours before Magoffin County headed out Monday to Paintsville for a crucial 57th District matchup, Pup Miller put the situation in perspective.
“All we have to do is win and we’ll be sitting pretty,” the Lady Hornet head man said.
And all Coach Miller and his Lady Hornets did was just that…win.
Magoffin County, fighting to avoid one of the lower two tournament seeds, rallied from an early deficit to beat the Lady Tigers 72-69 and claim a third place regular season finish.
Struggling all season long to make as many free throws as they missed, the Lady Hornets again showed poorly from the foul line, but a total of 55 attempts were enough to eventually claim a 52-40 win at John Sam Bailey Memorial Gymnasium.
Despite making just six of 23 tries in the first two quarters, Magoffin County managed to stay close, and actually owned a 16-14 advantage heading into the halftime break.
Johnson Central benefited from just two trips to the charity stripe in the first 16 minutes, connecting on two of four shots.
Friends, family, and others who knew him best are remembering Pat Montgomery this week as a fair-minded public servant who could be a tough law enforcer any time a situation required it.
