In an effort to have more efficient and accurate election year polling, the Salyersville Independent will utilize its website to administer its 2010 Primary and General Election Polling.

Senior post player Casey Adams manned the paint while freshman point guard Nathan Howard did his thing on the perimeter.

A couple Magoffin County seniors stepped up, helped the Lady Hornets snap a losing streak, and earned some praise from their head coach.
Amber Minix, with a team high 14 points, and Lindsey Howard combined for 24 points Saturday when Magoffin County won for the first time in its last eight tries by defeating Allen Central 57-44.
“Our seniors, Amber and Lindsey, had a great game,” Lady Hornet head man Steve Miller said.

The Herald Whitaker Middle School basketball program continued to enjoy success last week with a pair of wins at Belfry.
Cody Bailey hit for a team high 13 points to help the seventh grade Hornets claim a 51-20 victory and the high scoring antics of Jeffrey Bolen and strong board work by Timmy Joseph and Corey Pitts led the eighth grade squad to a 48-28 victory.
Bolen tossed in a total of 20 points and Joseph added 10 points to go with a team high 12 rebounds. Pitts finished the game with 10 rebounds.

 
 
 
First, Magoffin County made the Thursday night game interesting. Then, the Hornets made all connected to the Maroon and White happy.
Up by double figures with just over three minutes remaining, Magoffin County appeared well on its way to a successful and relaxing victory.
But Paintsville took advantage of some Hornet turnovers and missed free throws to draw even inside the final minute, bringing much doubt to what had the resemblance of a sure thing.

 The girls had a lot of fun competing in the Pom and Hip Hop categories.  The Junior Varsity Squad placed 1st in Hip Hop and 2nd in Pom. The Varsity team also placed 1st in Hip Hop and 2nd in Pom.  Everyone is very proud of their performances.
