 Paul Miller age 75 of Nippa, Kentucky passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at his home. He was born May 6, 1937 in Floyd County to the late Malcolm and Rhoda Miller.
 
Paul is survived by his wife; Eugenia Prater Miller, one son; Paul Edward Miller(Miranda) of Printer, Ky, seven daughters; Novela(Justin) Young of Staffordsville, Ky, Rodella(Billy) Stacy of Warfield, Ky, Linda Rasnake, Cindy Jordan, Mary Ann Fwoverland, Vickie Brown and Tenny Miller, all of Indiana, one brother; Jack Miler of Indiana, and three sisters; Judy Whitaker of Maytown, Ky, Gail Blevins of Ohio, and Sue Sharp of Indiana. Also surviving are several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and great greatgrandchildren.
 
In addition to his parents Paul is preceded in death by four brothers; Lewis Washington Miller, Bud Miller, Terry Miller, and Gary Miller, two sisters; Katie Miller and Patsy Spencer.
 
Funeral Services were conducted Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 2 PM from the Magoffin County Funeral Home chapel with elder Abey Howell and Chuckie Hall officiating, burial followed in the Miller Cemetery at Royalton, Ky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

 LaGonda Faye Arnett Mondragon age 25 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Magoffin County, Kentucky. She was born July 26, 1987 in Johnson County, Kentucky to Jerry Burdine and Peggy Manns Arnett. She is preceded in death by her husband Cory Mondragon. Survivors include her parents and one sister Jerrica Arnett of Salyersville, Kentucky, maternal grandparents Phillip and Faye Manns and one niece Chara Rosie Arnett. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents C.B. and Garnett Sue Arnett.
 
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Friday, October 5, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Family Cemetery at Middle Fork, Kentucky. Officiating will be Manuel Minix.
 
Friends may call the funeral home after 6 pm Wednesday, October 3, 2012 and all day Thursday.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

 Toledo, Ohio - Lance Gose, 87, of Toledo, Ohio, died peacefully, Saturday afternoon, September 29, 2012 in St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio after a long illness.  He was born July 5, 1925 in Magoffin County, Kentucky and as a youth moved to Willard, Ohio.  He worked for the B & O Railroad in, Willard, Ohio until being drafted into the Army in 1943.  During World War II he saw action at the Battle of the Bulge and several other battles in the European Theatre campaign.  After 20 years of service in the Army, with many military citations and awards, he retired from the service as a First Sergeant. After retirement he worked as a postal worker in Cleveland, Ohio, as a civil service employee at Heath, Ohio Air Force Base and several companies as a security guard supervisor. He was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, watching old western movies, and all sporting events on T.V.  Lance also liked, very much, playing cards and Ohio lottery games. He is survived by his son, Larry Gose of Toledo, Ohio, by two sisters, Lucille Hamons of Westerville, Ohio, and Connie (John) Fackler of Shelby, Ohio.  He is also survived by three brothers, Claude (Helen) Gose of Heath, Ohio, Chandos (Janet) Gose of Norwalk, Ohio, and Stanton Gose of Mansfield, Ohio, and many cousins. Lance was preceded in death by his wife, Alta (Ashley) Gose, by his parents, Reuben and Cloia Gose, by his brother, Carson Gose, and by his sister, Anna Mary Gose.  He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Associations of Toledo, Ohio and the Masonic Organization of Heath, Ohio.  Graveside services at Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven, Ohio will be announced at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio.

 Flora Montgomery Slone age 86 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Salyersville Health Care Center in Salyersville, Kentucky. She was born September 16, 1926 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Ben and Susan Jenkins Montgomery. She is the widow of the late George Slone. She is survived by two daughters: Ruthie McCarty and Leatha Howard both of Salyersville, Kentucky; also surviving are 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great- grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents and husband Flora is preceded in death by one daughter Sue Ashmore, three brothers: Hobert Montgomery, Hubert Montgomery and Charlie Hamilton; and one sister Mae Blanton.
 
Funeral services were conducted at 1 pm Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Flat Fork Freewill Baptist Church with Herschel Wright officiating. Burial followed in the Flat Fork Cemetery at Flat Fork, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

 Caulene “Polly” Martin, age 84 of Garrett, KY, wife of the late Roy S. Martin, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY.  She was born November 11, 1927 in Jellico, TN, the daughter of the late Earl and Irene Cummins Buckner.  She was a former U.S. Census Bureau employee and a member of the Garrett First Baptist Church.
 
 Mrs. Martin is survived by one son, Johnny Martin of Edmond, OK, two daughters, JoAnne (Ron) Roberts of Milford, OH, Peggi (Randall Bob) Jordan of Salyersville, KY, three sisters, Mary Conley, Norfolk, VA., Nora Jean Cuntz, Cincinnati, OH. and Rose Ella Buckner, TN five grandchildren, Greg Roberts, Roy John Martin, Colleen Acerra, Jennifer Hall, and Jason Jordan, and eight great grandchildren.
 
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Earl Buckner, Jr., Hank Buckner, Gilbert Buckner, Jim Buckner, Rusty Buckner, Carl Smith, Earl Smith and John Smith Jr. 
 
 Funeral services for Caulene “Polly” Martin were held Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, KY with Randy Osborne officiating.  Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, KY.

James is also survived by his wife; Sarah Williams Mullis, three sons; James Everette Mullis of Lick Creek, Kentucky, Jacob Dewayne Mullis of Oakley, Kentucky, and John Gabriel Mullis of Tick Lick, Kentucky, one daughter; Samarah Elizabeth Mullis of Tick Lick, Kentucky, one brother; David Allen Harris of Grey Court, SC, two sisters Justine Lisa Smith, and Robin Mullis both of Grey Court, SC. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; Isaiah James Mullis, Tristan Adam Mullis, Lucas Andrew Watkins, Levi Donavan Watkins, Angel Rena Mullis and Isabell Mashelle Mullis.
 
Along with his father, James is preceded in death by one son; Joseph Andrew Mullis.
 
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 28, 2012 at 1 PM from the Magoffin County Funeral Home chapel with Doug Elam officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery at Tick Lick, Kentucky.

Saul is survived by his; wife Mary Bailey Joseph, five sons; Jerry Joseph (Angie) of Betsy Layne, Kentucky, Darrell Joseph (Jamie) of Salyersville, Kentucky, Paul Joseph(Mary) of Wolcott, IN, Ronald Joseph(Karen) of Lafayette, IN and Larry Joseph of IN, one daughter; Rita Bailey(Elmer) of Salyersville, Kentucky, two brother: Luther Joseph of Gapville, Kentucky, and Elijah Joseph of Gapville, Kentucky. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and several great- great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to his parents, Saul is preceded in death by two sons; David Joseph and Greg Joseph, one daughter; Patty Montgomery, four brothers: Arthur Joseph, Morgan Joseph, Elmer Joseph and John Joseph; and two sisters; Bertha Bailey, and Flora Bailey.
 
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 1 PM from the Magoffin County Funeral Home chapel with Greg Minix officiating. Burial followed in the Brushy Fork Cemetery at Brushy Fork, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the arrangements of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

 Oda Conley Patrick age 89 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville, Kentucky. She was born November 2, 1922 in Breathitt County, Kentucky to the late Adam and Rachel Oliver Conley. She is also preceded in death by her husband Bub Patrick.
 
Survivors include two sons Roger and Stanley Patrick of Salyersville, Kentucky, four daughters: Kathy Poe of Salyersville, Kentucky, Pam Collinsworth of Salyersville, Kentucky, Ruth Cain of Sarasota, Florida and Donna Woolums of Lexington, Kentucky; Also surviving are 15 Grandchildren and 4 Great-grandchildren.
 
In addition to her parents and husband Oda is preceded in death by one daughter Linda Risner, two sons: Harold Patrick and Glen Patrick; four brothers: Orville Conley, Edward Conley, Russell Conley and Johnny Conley; and one sister Yeardley Collins.
 
Funeral services were conducted at 11 am Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Patrick Family Cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky. Officiating clergy were Steve Sandefur and Eddie Dennison.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

 John B. Shepherd age 81 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. He was born August 9, 1931 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Morgan and Margaret Wireman Shepherd.
 
He is survived by his wife; Ruth Shepherd, two sons; Pete Shepherd of Salyersville, Kentucky and Johnny Shepherd of Salyersville, Kentucky. Also surviving are four grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, and 1 step-great-grandson. Also surviving is a special cousin; Ethel Wireman Stephens. 
 
In addition to his parents, John B. is preceded in death by one brother, Paul Shepherd.
 
Funeral Arrangements for John B. Shepherd were conducted Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 2 PM from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Greene officiating.  Roberta Salyers Trusty, age 68, a resident of Dixie Avenue in Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
 
Mrs. Trusty was born April 14, 1944 in Salyersville, Kentucky the daughter of the late Robert and Eliza Poe Salyers.  Also, preceding her in death is her husband, Elmer Trusty, whom she married on February 21, 1964.
 
She was a homemaker and a devoted member to her family and friends.  She was a member of the Carver United Baptist Church.
 
Those left to mourn include son, Mark Anthony Trusty of Salyersville, Kentucky; daughters Leia Wood of Salyersville, Kentucky, Anna Jordan of Huntington, West Virginia; one brother Joe Salyers, and four sisters; Marie Gamble, Patty Burks, Sue Bailey, and Betty Trusty.  Also, surviving are eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends who love and miss her.
 
Funeral services for Roberta Salyers Trusty were conducted Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 1:00 PM from the chapel of the Salyersville Funeral Home.  Comforting words were given at the service by clergy Greg Minix.  Burial followed in the Poe Family Cemetery in Oakley, Kentucky.   The arrangements were under the direction of the Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville, Kentucky.

 Edgar Alvin Poe age 83 of Louisa, Kentucky formerly of Magoffin County, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Mountain Manor Nursing Home in Paintsville, Kentucky. He was born May 19, 1925 in North Judson, Indiana to the late Ben and Elizabeth Puckett Poe. He is survived by his wife Wanda Jennings Poe, six sons: Joseph Poe, Alvin Elige Poe, Benny Poe and Roger Rowe all of Salyersville, Kentucky, James Poe of Louisa, Kentucky and Edgar Poe of Florida; six daughters: Elizabeth Cavens of Paintsville, Kentucky, Clara Salyers of Salyersville, Kentucky, Susan Poe of Louisa, Kentucky, Kathy Poe of Indiana, Nellie Poe and Cathy Poe both of Ohio; one brother Noah Poe of Illinois and two sisters Nick Poe of Ohio and Jane Poe of Tennessee, 29 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren also survive.
 
In addition to his parents he's preceded in death by two brothers Ben Poe and Cornell Poe.

 Mae Shepherd Arnett age 93 of Fredville, Ky., wife of the late Arvel W. Arnett passed away on Sunday morning September 9, 2012 at the Paul B. Hall Medical Center in Paintsville, Ky. She was born January 20, 1919 in Magoffin County to the late Leck and Telia Brown Shepherd.
 
Mae is survived by four daughters: Connie (Austin) Wireman of Fredville, Kentucky, Nina Arnett of Fredville, Kentucky, Carolyn(Henry S.) Sue Coons of Paris, Kentucky and Madgie Lea(Victor) Davis of Fredville, Kentucky. One sister: Ella Rhee Arnett of Ohio.
 
Other survivors include four grandchildren: Kimberly Mae(Jeff) Rudd, William Austin "Bill" Wireman, Elizabeth(Heath) Buckler, and Laura Mae(Kelvin) Wireman. Five great- grandchildren: DeLaney Marie Wireman, Elijah Jamison Rudd, Levi Austin Rudd, Benjamin Jacob Thomas Rudd, and Matthew Layne Davis Wireman.
 
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Arnett is preceded in death by two brothers: Orville Shepherd, and Leck Shepherd, JR., and one sister: Japeline Smith.
 
Funeral Services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday September 12, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial followed in the John T. Wireman Cemetery in Fredville, Kentucky.
 
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Magoffin County Historical Society.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

 Ruth Howard Salyer age 87 of Lexington, Kentucky formerly of Magoffin County, Kentucky passed away Tuesday September 4, 2012 at the Pine Meadows nursing home in Lexington, Ky. She was born June 18, 1925 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late George and May Hurt Howard. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Clay Salyer. Ruth is survived by two sons Nick Clay Salyer of Lexington, Kentucky, Dan Salyer of New York, New York, and one daughter Susan Salyer of Lexington, Kentucky.
 
Also preceding Ruth in death is one brother, Paul Howard and two sisters, Imogene Salyer and Juanita Salyer. Ruth was a retired school teacher.
 
Funeral services for Ruth Howard Salyer were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating clergy was Robert Felber. Burial followed in the Roark Cemetery at Burning Fork, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

 A.B. "Hap" Gose age 76 of Salyersville passed away on Friday September 7, 2012 at his home. Born December 4, 1935 he was a son of the late Bill and Delana Phipps Gose. Survivors include special relatives; Matthew, Kay, Toshia, Jacob, and Arayanna Isaac as well as a host of neighbors and friends. In addition to his parents "Hap" was preceded in death by 3 half-brothers. He was a Veteran of the US Army and a member of the Bear Branch Primitive Baptist Church.
 
Funeral Services were conducted at 11:00 AM Monday September 10, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Clergy officiating were, Jerry Brown, Donnie Finch, and Rick Holbrook. Burial followed in the Gose Cemetery at Middle Fork.
 
Military Rites were given by the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15 on the day of the funeral.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Phyllis Arnett May age 75 of Salyersville, Kentucky, wife of Homer May JR passed away Saturday afternoon, July 21, 2012 at the Salyersville Health Care Center.

Phyllis was born January 19, 1937 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Sidney and Phoebe Arnett Arnett.

Mrs. May is survived by her husband; two sons; Charles Kevin May of West Liberty, Kentucky and Paul Bryan May of Salyersville, Kentucky; one daughter, Kimberly Jane Patrick; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, three brothers; Russell Arnett, Gratz Bill Arnett and Ace Arnett; and two sisters; Frannie Cummings and Cora Cox preceded Phyllis in death.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Buster Blanton, John Blanton and Dewey Mac Mullins officiating. Burial followed in the May Cemetery at Pleasant Hill, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Granville "G.V." Joseph age 104 of Salyersville, Ky., passed away on Friday evening July 20, 2012 at the Salyersville Heath Care Center in Salyersville, Kentucky. Born February 3, 1908 in Magoffin County Kentucky he was a son of the late Linden and Harriett Wireman Joseph. He was united in marriage to the former Ethel Mullins who precedes him in death. G.V. was a retired Logger and Sawmill operator and a member of the Lakeville Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include five sons: Kendall Joseph of Dayton, Ohio, Charles Joseph, Harold Joseph, Granville Jr. Joseph, and Phillip Joseph all of Salyersville, Kentucky; six daughters: Mable Ledford of Knoxville, Tennessee, Emma Jean Adams of Lexington, Kentucky, Faye Stacy of Salyersville, Kentucky, Peggy Howard of South Shore, Kentucky, Patricia Blevins of Dayton, Ohio, and Brenda Minix of Salyersville, Kentucky; Also surviving are thirty seven grandchildren, seventy six great-grandchildren and thirty six great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, G.V is preceded in death by two daughters: Genevieve Joseph and Wilma Dotson, three brothers: Reuben Joseph, Lewis Joseph, and Homer Joseph and two sisters: Sally Miller and Ada Cook.

Funeral services for G.V. Joseph were conducted at 1:00 PM Monday July 23, 2012 from the Salyersville First Baptist Church with Floyd Arnett officiating. Burial followed in the Joseph Family Cemetery at Mason Creek, Kentucky.

Charles was born September 9, 1960 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the son of Charlie and Henrietta Brown Howard whom survive.

Also surviving is his companion, Kimberly Parson; two sons: Christopher Charles Howard and Brandon Scott Howard both of Salyersville, Kentucky; one stepson: Randall Yielding of Lexington, Kentucky; two daughters: Candida Dawn Howard and Brandi Nicole Tucker both of Lexington, Kentucky and stepdaughter, Chelsea Yielding of Salyersville, Kentucky; two brothers: Tommy Howard and Tony Howard, both of Salyersville, Kentucky; one sister: Vicki Sue Bailey of Salyersville, Kentucky and six grandchildren.

Funeral Services were conducted Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 1:00 PM from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Brandon Howard, Gary Bolen, Gary Ward and Hearl Howard officiating. Burial followed at the Head of Buffalo Cemetery, in Salyersville, Kentucky. Jeanette was born January 24, 1947 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Homer and Sarepta Howard Lykins. Surviving are two daughters: Jeanna (Jackie) Bailey and Crystal (Douglas) Arnett both of Salyersville, Kentucky; three brothers: Marvin (Vivian) Lykins, Raney (Betty) Lykins and Jerry Lykins all of West Liberty, Kentucky; one sister: Sara Rose (Morris) Montgomery of Middletown, Ohio; four grandchildren: Wesley (Michelle) Bailey, Chelsea (Adam) Gamble, Ryan Bailey, and Tasha (Matt) Huff and one great-granddaughter, Kenzie Lynn.

In addition to her parents, six brothers: Orville Lykins, Panzie Lykins, Merlin Lykins and three infants; three sisters: Judith Lykins and two infants preceded Jeanette in death.

Funeral Services were conducted Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:00 AM from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Homer Lykins Cemetery at West Liberty, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Virgilene Markland Davis, age 51, wife of Michael Dean Davis, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012. She was a 51 year old native of Magoffin County, daughter of Betty Risner Markland of Mt. Sterling, and the late Robert Markland, a surgical technician at the Labor and Delivery department of Central Baptist Hospital for 22 years, a member of the Eastern Star and active committee member of the Perinatal Loss Counseling at Central Baptist Hospital, and a member of the Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Tiffany (Adi) Antoni and a son, Homer Todd Smith, both of Lexington, 3 stepdaughters, Gina DeBruler of Jeffersonville, Dede Davis of Mt. Sterling and Toni (Jeremy) Foushee of Lexington, 7 grandchildren, Keira, Ashlynn and Drew Antoni, Summer and J.D. Taylor, Colton and Sydney DeBruler, 3 brothers, Randy Boone Markland and Robert Neal West, both of Salyersville, and Terry Lee Arnett of Ashland, 4 sisters, Lisa Shultz and Brenda Risner, both of Mt. Sterling, Kathy Lykins of West Liberty and Kay Issac of Salyersville, and many beloved friends and extended family. Her funeral was held 10:00 Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling, with Pastor Rick Johnson officiating.  Burial followed in Machpelah Cemetery in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Contributions are suggested to the March of Dimes or Clark County Christian Drug Collide Project. Arrangements were under the direction of the Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

Rex Pennington, 85, of Wheelersburg, formerly of Magoffin County, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.  He was born January 22, 1927, in Salyersville, Ky. to the late Audie and Bertha Hall Pennington.  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Pairlee Ward Pennington; three daughters, Daisy (Steve) Carter and Phyllis Kilgore, both of Wheelersburg; Bridget (Steve) Halley, of Flatwoods; three brothers, Willie "Bill" Pennington, of Wheelersburg, Clayton Pennington, of Minford, and Marcus Pennington, of Salyersville; one sister, Alma Nibert, of Baltimore, OH; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Thelma Burton, Nancy Jane Pennington, Rebecca "Becky" Carpenter and Christine Melandrez.  He served our county during World War II in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local 577, of Portsmouth, working as a pipefitter/welder.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and skilled carver. 

He was a wonderful example to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was a loving partner to his wife.  He will be greatly missed.  Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, July 20, 2012, at the Swick-Bussa-Chamberlin Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with Rex Howe and Steve Halley officiating, with interment following at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites by the James Dickey Post 23.
