Verglinda Stephens-Hoppe Of Chelsea, Michigan
Age 88, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 19, 1925 in Salyersville, Kentucky, the daughter of Kern and Willie (Bailey) Patrick. On July 19, 1941 she married Charles William Stephens and he preceded her in death on June 28, 1996. Verglinda had lived in the area since 1946, coming from Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Chelsea. She enjoyed quilting, reading, canning, and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are three daughters: Glinda Katheryn (Charles) Kocsis of Texas, Janice (Robert) Taylor of Chelsea, and Joyce Policht of Chelsea; one step-son, Danny Hoppe of Saline; seven grandchildren: James Policht, Scott Policht, Stephen Dault, Sheryl Lancaster, Susan Rodriguez, Stacie (Roger) Manning, and Elizabeth (Jamie) Curran; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Cassie Allen of Prestonsburg; her sister-in-law, Nola Stumbo of Prestonsburg; and several special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her maternal grandparents, Ira Carpenter (Dick) Bailey and Nancy Fletcher Bailey; paternal grandparents, Huston Patrick and Rebecca Patton Patrick; two infant great-grandchildren, Jack and Curran, and one great-granddaughter, Kayanna Jeanes; her siblings: Edgar Patrick, Norvell Patrick, Alta Patton, Lucy McElone, Virgie Harrety, Edith Smith, an infant brother, and an infant sister; a son-in-law, Brian Policht; and her second husband, Douglas Clifford Hoppe. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea with Pastor Adam Summers and Pastor Jack Story co-officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Chelsea.
