Jean F. Cummings of Jackson, Michigan passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the age of 84 years.  Jean was the daughter of the late Sydney and Phoebe Arnett of Royalton, Kentucky.  She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 45 years, Thomas M. Cummings.  Jean is survived by one daughter, Mary K. Howard; four sons, Gerald T. (Margie) Cummings, Paul Michael Cummings, Patrick T. (Rose) Cummings and Thomas F. (Karen) Cummings; 15 grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis (Bill) May; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard Cummings, Fr. Paul Cummings, Leo (Glenda) Cummings, Sister Kathleen Cummings OLV, Richard (Mary Ann) Cummings, Theresa Hansel and Rosemary Kite.  She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ace, Russell and Bill Arnett; one sister, Cora Cox; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank Cummings, Matt Cummings, Jim Cummings and Rita Frybarger.  Jean came to Jackson as a young girl from Kentucky and began working in the food industry.  She was a cook at many area restaurants in Jackson, including Schuler’s, Fields and Jacobson’s where she retired after 20 years as a cook and a baker of her delicious cheese bread and baked goods.  She was also a member of the VFW #823 Auxiliary for 40 years.  Prayer service followed by the Mass of Christian Burial was held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church.  Interment was at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan or Queens Parish.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Chris Hoopingarner for her loving care of their Mother.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Desnoyer Funeral Home.

James C. Montgomery age 81 of Mason Creek Rd, Salyersville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday morning January 28, 2012 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. James was born on June 24, 1930 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, a son of the late Skid and Eliza Gullett Montgomery. He was united in marriage to the former Ruth Anna Cole who precedes him in death.

He is survived by one sister, Elezene Holbrook of Salyersville, Kentucky and several extended family members, friends and neighbors.

In addition to his parents and his wife James is preceded in death by one brother: Owen Segle Montgomery.

James was a member of the Bethel Bible Baptist Church. A Life Member of the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15, a member of the Magoffin County Muzzleloaders, and an avid fisherman.

Funeral Services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating clergy was Robert Simmons. Burial followed in the Cole Cemetery at Mason Creek.

Military rites were given by the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15 the day of the funeral.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions be made to the following organizations: The Bethel Bible Baptist Church, Salyersville D.A.V Chapter 15, and the Magoffin County Gideons. Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Cleda Mae Miller White, age 87 of Half Mountain Road, Salyersville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday evening January 26, 2012 at her home. She was the wife of the late James O. White.

Cleda was born on August 6, 1924 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Jasper and Polly Cole Miller.   Cleda was a homemaker and a member of the Big Half Mountain Church.

Survivors include two sons: Calvin White and Don White both of Salyersville, Kentucky; five daughters: Etta Fay Manns, Diane Puckett, Barbara Porter, Debbie Holliday and Waynda Holliday, all of Salyersville, Kentucky; three sisters: Lula Back of Knox, Indiana, Levna Howard of Salyersville, Kentucky and Ocie Lykins of Staffordsville, Kentucky. Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, Cleda is preceded in death by one son: Orville White; one brother Ernest Miller and one sister Ida Bailey. Additionally three grandchildren: Michael White, Shannon White and Gregory F. Porter and one great grandchild, Isabella Faith Miller preceded her in death.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 PM Monday January 30, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating Clergy were, Ollie Coldiron and Greg Minix.
Burial followed in the White Family Cemetery at Half Mountain, Kentucky. Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Casey Jones Helton age 97 of Ezel, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at his home. He was born November 8, 1914 in Magoffin County to the late Claude and Bassie Howard Helton.  Casey was a retired pipefitter and a Minister of the Bloomington United Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son Joseph Smith Helton (Ival B. Syfert) of West Liberty, Kentucky and one daughter Janice Rae Arnett of Maytown, Kentucky, two grandchildren, Tyra Jo (Phil) Day-Lebanon of Ohio, and Joseph Smith Helton, JR of Stanton, Kentucky, two grandchildren, Harley Helton and Craig Helton of West Liberty, Kentucky.

In addition to his parents Casey is preceded in death by his wife Edna Mae Francis Helton, five brothers: Bob Helton, Clyde Helton, Hassell Helton, Russell Helton, Billy Helton; three sisters: Peachie Helton, Mabel Helton, Hazel Helton; and one grandchild, Bobby Earl Arnett.

Funeral Services were conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday January 28, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Clergyman Paul Brown officiating. Burial followed in the Helton Family Cemetery located in Maytown, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Suedell Spurlock Howard, age 72, a resident of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the UK Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Kentucky.  Mrs. Howard was born August 9, 1939 in Salyersville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Earl P. and Carol May Spurlock.  She was employed at the Cabinet of Human Resources through the Commonwealth of Kentucky until her retirement.  In her passing she leaves behind, her husband; Dana Howard of Salyersville, Kentucky; two sons:  Kerry Howard and wife Sarah Lee of Salyersville, Kentucky and Tommy Howard and wife Tamara of Salyersville, Kentucky; one sister:  Avondell Bendarz of Dayton, Ohio; and one grandchild, Elizabeth Howard of Salyersville, Kentucky.  Also surviving is a host of family and friends who love and miss her.  Funeral services for Suedell Howard were conducted Friday, January 27, 2012 at 1:00 PM from the Salyersville Funeral Home.  Comforting words were given by clergy Eddie Dennison.  Burial followed in the Highlands Memorial Park in Staffordsville, Kentucky.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions to be made to the Magoffin County Gideon’s and Hospice of the Bluegrass.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Salyersville Funeral Home.

Ramey Montgomery age 91 of Lakeville Rd., Salyersville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday morning January 21, 2012 at the Salyersville Health Care Center in Salyersville, Kentucky. Born September 6, 1920 he was a son of the late Reese and Nell Collins Montgomery. He was united in marriage to the former Inez Stepp who survives.
Additional survivors include three sons: Manuel (Peggy) Montgomery, Billy Jack Montgomery, and John C. (Vanessa) Montgomery all of Salyersville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers: Guy Montgomery and Bubby Montgomery; four sisters also precede him in death: Panzie Taulbee, Elsie Williams, Jessie Richardson, and Mary Lou Minix.
In addition to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, Ramey was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of the Regular Primitive Baptist Church and a former Leasing agent for Ashland Oil.
Funeral services for Ramey Montgomery were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday January 24, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating Clergy were Billy Campbell and Roger Murrell. Burial followed in the Howard Cemetery at Lakeville, Kentucky.  Military Rites were given by the Salyersville DAV Chapter 15 on the day of the funeral.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Nelma Faye Martin Slone age 61 of Dry Bread Road, Salyersville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday morning January 21, 2012 at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was united in marriage to Ballard Slone who survives.

Faye was born on June 29, 1950 in Magoffin County, Kentucky, the daughter of Thelma Howard and the late James Martin.  Faye is also survived by her step-father, Herman Conn; two sons: Clark Dwayne ( Debra) Slone, of New Castle, Kentucky., and Johnathan Ballard Slone of Florence, Kentucky; one daughter: Patricia (William) Davis of Salyersville, Kentucky; three brothers: Keith Conn of Dana, Kentucky., Dallas Conn of Stanton, Kentucky, and Brady Conn of Dana, Kentucky; two sisters: Herma Lynn Conn and Thelma Joan Hunt both of Dana, Kentucky; five grandchildren: Nick, Tyler, Chase, Emily, and Jerred, and two great- grandchildren: Abbygail and Maddison.  In addition to her father, Faye is preceded in death by her special grandparents Willis and Aggie Howard and one brother: Brian Conn.

Aside from being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Faye was a Respiratory Therapist, homemaker, and member of the Middle Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral Services for Faye Slone were conducted at 3:00 PM Monday January 23, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Lindsey Meade officiating.   Burial followed in the Jim Slone Cemetery at David, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Jamie Lyle Sharp age 40 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born March 2, 1971 in Bath, New York to Richard Costley and Sharon Galutia Wallis. He is also survived by one son Cody Sharp of Las Vegas, Nevada one step daughter Monica Schoenke of Oak Harbor, Washington; two brothers: John (Shawna) Sharp of Salyersville, Kentucky and Justin (Shelly) Sharp of Bishopville, South Carolina; one sister, Jessica (Harrison) Howard of Salyersville, Kentucky; and one grandchild Michael Grant; his grandmother: Virginia Galutia of Las Vegas, Nevada and uncle David (Sheree) LeGro of Las Vegas, Nevada.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather Lyle Galutia.

Funeral Services were conducted at 1:00 pm Monday, January 23, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Tackett Cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky. Officiating clergy was Leonard Blanton. Military Rites were given by the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15 the day of the funeral. Courtney Howard age 98 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 at the Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. He was born March 26, 1913 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Harris and Ollie Reed Howard.

He was united in marriage to the late Rosa Francis Howard and survived by one son Dan Howard of Salyersville, Kentucky; one daughter Judith (Berlin) Jenkins of London, Ohio; four grandchildren: Danita (Jerry Cooper) Jenkins, Deanna (Duane) Nibert, Belinda (Kevin) Davis and Jacob Howard; three great-grandchildren: Jesse Davis, Danyelle Davis and Taylor Nibert.

In addition to Courtney's parents and wife he is preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Sue Howard; five brothers: Kelly Howard, Otto Howard, Kurt Howard, Johnny Howard and Henry Howard; seven sisters: Edna Willis, Carrie Bailey, Lena Risner, Ethel Craft, Arzelia Howard, Alta Burgett and Beulah Howard.

Funeral Services for Courtney Howard will be conducted at 11 am Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel, Minister Officiating will be Justin Williams. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery at Pricey Creek, Kentucky.

Friends may call the funeral home after 5 pm Wednesday, January 18, 2012 and anytime Thursday prior to funeral services. Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Merlin Craig Taulbee age 44 of Old Burning Fork Road, Salyerville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday January 14, 2012 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He is the husband of Tammy Bryant Taulbee and son of the late Merlin and Pansy Montgomery Taulbee.

Additional survivors include three sons: Zachary Taulbee of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Peyton Taulbee and Trenton Taulbee both of Salyersville, Kentucky; one step-son: Jesse Minix of Salyersville, Kentucky. Two daughters: Tiffany (Josh) Cole of Salyersville, Kentucky, and Bethany Lovely of Salyersville, Kentucky; one brother, Larry Lee (Eva Gay) Taulbee of Delray, Florida; and two grandchildren, Chase and Sierra.

In addition to his parents Craig is preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Taulbee and one sister, Theda Howard.

In addition to being a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and son-in-law, Craig was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the Burning Fork Community Church and a Union Millwright local 1031.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday January 18, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with Clergyman Eddie Dennison officiating.
Burial will follow in the Taulbee Family Cemetery located in the Frozen Creek Community of Breathitt County.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Ella Mae Nickles Gipson age 62 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at her home. She was born in Magoffin County to the late Brack and Gladys Barnett Nickles. She is survived by her husband Gary Wayne Gipson Sr., three sons: Gary Wayne Gipson, Jr. of Salyersville, Kentucky, Clearence Wayne Gipson of Salyersville, Kentucky, and Henry Nickles of Ohio; two daughters: Wilma Gipson of Salyersville, Kentucky and Monnie Jones of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; five brothers: Dudley Nickles, Andrew Nickles, Jake Nickles, Larry Nickles, and Abe Nickles all of Salyersville, Kentucky; five sisters: Pansy Miller, Rella Gipson, Lydia Jo Fletcher, Sylvia Nickles and Mary Cole all of Salyersville, Kentucky; Also surviving are nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Ella Mae is preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Manns, three sons:  Brack Nickles, Jr., James Nickles and Henry Bayes; two brothers: David Leon Nickles, and Robert Nickles.

Funeral Services for Ella Mae Nickles Gipson were conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating clergy were Simon Porter and Delbert Porter. Burial followed in the Gipson Family Cemetery at Salyersville, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Bill K. Wireman age 65 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at his residence. He was born December 27, 1946 in Magoffin County to the late Kendle and Polly Allen Wireman. He is survived by his wife Hazel Laney Wireman, one son: Anthony(Amanda) Wireman of Danville, Kentucky; three brothers: John Wireman of Homer Michigan, Ramey Wireman of Salyersville, Kentucky and Bobby Wireman of Salyersville, Kentucky; three sisters: Pauline Howard of Salyersville, Kentucky, Alice Mangrum of Nashville, Tennessee, Cella Madge Plomske of Lexington, Kentucky  and Drethie Lynn Blackburn of Salyersville, Kentucky;  two grandchildren: Alan Wireman and Alexis Wireman; He is also survived by a host of step-children, Rebecca (Griggs Rowe) of Salyersville, Kentucky, Renee White (Randall Wireman) of Salyersville, Kentucky, James May of Salyersville, Kentucky and Isaac Bailey of Salyersville, Kentucky;  four step- grandchildren, eight nephews and four nieces.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by two sisters: Geraldine (Thomas) Leslie, Ethel Jean (Clarence) Mullins, and one step son, Michael White.

Funeral Services for Bill K. Wireman were conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, January 12, 2012 from the Goat Mountain Cemetery at Salt Lick, Kentucky with burial to follow.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Naomi Ruth Hamilton Griffith, age 72, a resident of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Kentucky.  Mrs. Griffith was born March 26, 1939in Wichita, Kansas the daughter of the late Ivan and Ramah Hamilton.  Mrs. Griffith was married on January 29, 1953 to Vernon Lee Griffith and he preceded her in death.  In her passing she leaves behind, three sons:  David (Kathy) Griffith of Pine Mountain, Georgia, Mike (Gail) Griffith of Salyersville, Kentucky and Randall (Millie) Griffith of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; two daughters:  Jeanette Griffith of Salyersville, Kentucky and Sarah G. Aken of Chicago, Illinois; also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends who love and miss her.  There will be a private graveside ceremony held at the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Alabama.  Arrangements are in care of the Salyersville Funeral Home in Salyersville, Kentucky.

 Age 85, died Monday, January 9, 2012 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was born August 26, 1926 in Carver, Kentucky, the daughter of Casell and Minnie (Rowe) Bailey, and the granddaughter of Rev. Morgan Rowe.

Mae retired from Chrysler.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Saline Chapter #311.  Mae's heart was for her family.

On March 6, 1948, she married Ishmael Picklesimer, and he preceded her in death on October 2, 1999. Survivors include her children, Castle Jerry (Mary E.) Picklesimer, Linda (Gail) Shears, Rita Gadnai, Ishmael (Debra) Picklesimer Jr., Samuel Picklesimer, James Picklesimer; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-great-granchildren; her siblings, June Walz, Markis Bailey, Hilord Bailey, Shirley Marshall, Louise Clark; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Ted Picklesimer; son-in-law, Karl Gadnai; grandson, Ryan Shears; brothers, Mort, Harles and Harold Bailey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 11:00 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Pastor Charlotte Craft officiating.  A private burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chelsea.

The family will receive friends Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice.  Arrangements were under the direction of Cole Funeral Home.

Savannah Arnett May age 73 of Rochester, Indiana formerly of Magoffin County, Kentucky passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Rochester in Rochester, Indiana.

She was born September 14, 1938 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Lester and Mary Craft Arnett. She was married to Winfred May who also precedes her in death.

Survivors include three sons: Rickey (Juneattea) May of Rochester, Indiana, Toney (Tammy) May of West Palm Beach, Florida and Jeffery May of Reno, Nevada; two brothers : Bobby Arnett of Salyersville, Kentucky and Clayton (Vickie) Arnett of Salyersville, Kentucky; two sisters: Josephine Arnett of Salyersville, Kentucky and Linda (Denver) Fyffe of Salyersville, Kentucky; Seven Grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren also survives.

In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by three brothers.

Mrs. May had worked at the former Hart, Schaffner and Marx, The Streamliner Restaurant and Kentucky Fried Chicken all of Rochester, Indiana. In her spare time she enjoyed Sewing.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 am Friday, January 13, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Craft Creek Cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 am Friday prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville, Kentucky.  Mrs. Patrick was born January 25, 1924 in Salyersville, Kentucky the daughter of the late Cain and Sarah Howard Salyer.  In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Patrick; three brothers:  Hershel, Harold and Jerry Salyer; one sister:  Joyce Grooms and one grandson:  Billy James Shepherd.  In her passing she leaves behind, two daughters:  Diane (Billy) Shepherd and Debra Patrick both of Salyersville, Kentucky; four sisters:  Helen Whisman of Pontiac, Michigan, Hanna Adams of St. James City, Florida, Faye (Eugene) Steffens of Waterford, Michigan and Jane Arnett of Birmingham, Alabama; three brothers:  Herman (Joy) Salyer and Bobby (Pauline) Salyer of Salyersville, Kentucky and David Salyer of Eatonton, Georgia.  Also surviving are two granddaughters:  Jenny Salyer and Molly Louise Shepherd; two great-grandchildren:  Lauren Grace Osborne and Christian David Jackson and a host of family and friends who love and miss her.  Funeral services for Hortense Salyer Patrick were conducted on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Salyersville Funeral Home Chapel.  Comforting words were given by clergy Randy Haney and Dennis Conley.  Burial followed the service at the Patrick Cemetery in Bradley, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the care of the Salyersville Funeral Home.

Josephine Allen age 50 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 at her home. She was born February 8, 1961 in Stark County, Indiana to the late Frank and Imogene Lovins Allen. She is survived by her loving husband, Donnie Allen. three sons: Chris, Brandon and Nick; two step-sons: Tyler Morgan and Robert Keith; two brothers: Bud and Bill Allen; three sisters: Mary Childers, Angelia Hurt and Cheryl Allen; four grandchildren and one step- grandchild. Also surviving are five special friends: Janie Maulky, Lisa Thorp, Mary and Jeff Harper and Calli Hickman.

In addition to her parents Josephine is preceded in death by two brothers: John and Michael Allen.

Funeral Services were conducted at 12:00 noon Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from the Salyersville Freewill Baptist Church with Clergyman Floyd Arnett officiating. Burial followed in the Allen Cemetery at Fredville, Kentucky.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Felton Craft age 76 of Spruce Pine, Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. He was born March 29, 1935 in Magoffin County to the late Earn and Daisy Arnett Craft.

He is survived by his wife: Ulonda Williams Craft; one daughter: Alfretta Craft of Salyersville, Kentucky; one sister: Pauline (Paul E.) Williams of Stockbridge, Michigan; also surviving are two grandchildren: Kristal Jenkins and Kyle (Molly) Craft-Jenkins.

Along with his parents, Felton is preceded in death by two brothers, Richmond Craft and Raymond Craft.

Funeral Services for Felton Craft will be conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 5, 2012 from the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating clergy will be Donovan Finch and Doyle Keeton. Burial will follow in the Craft Family Cemetery at Spruce Pine, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends after 5:00 pm Tuesday, January 3, 2012 all day on Wednesday, and any time prior to funeral services on Thursday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Russell Hoskins age 86, of Milan Michigan formerly of Salyersville passed away Friday December 30, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 12, 1925 in Salyersville, Kentucky, the son of Owen and Bonnie (Patton) Hoskins. After high school he honorably served during WWII in the China-Burma Theater 1943-1945. When Russell returned to Salyersville, he enrolled in Morehead State University, where he played basketball. On November 7, 1947 he married Bobbie Jean Flint and she survives. Russell was an active member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 190 for 64 years; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. In addition to his wife, Bobbie Jean he is survived by five children; Kathy (Bob) Viets of Milan, Mary Ann (Joe) Machen of Manchester, David (Terrie) Hoskins of Milan, Cindy (Don) Penix of Dexter and Patrick (Jackie) Hoskins of Brighton; seven grandchildren: Mandy, Jesse, Eva, Heather, Katie, Emily and Lauren; He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Rondell, Roger, Paul, and an infant son.

Funeral Services were conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday January 4, 2012 at the Magoffin County Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Hoskins Cemetery at Lakeville. Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.

Ernest Franklin Powers age 88 of Mash Fork Road, Salyersville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday morning December 29, 2011 at the Highlands Regional Medical Center in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.

He was born March 13, 1923 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Frank B. and Emily Adams Powers. He is survived by his wife Anna Mae Collinsworth Powers; one son: Ernie Lee (Rhonda) Powers of Verona, Kentucky; six daughters: Janet Sue (Jerry) Hornsby of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Judy Ann Tramel of Paintsville, Kentucky, Linda Lou (Dorsie) Carty of Salyersville, Kentucky, Mary Jane Marshall of Salyersville, Kentucky, Ernestine (Gary) Williams of Salyersville, Kentucky, and Mittie Kay (James) Holbrook of Salyersville, Kentucky; two brothers: Oliver Powers and Grant Powers both of Salyersville, Kentucky; three sisters: Nell Kelly of Salyersville, Kentucky, Phoebe Ann Fitzgerald of Freemont, Ohio and Lora Hall of Prestonsburg, Kentucky;  He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, Ernest is preceded in death by: one brother: Paul Powers and two sisters: Sina Rose Congers and Mary Edith Powers.

Ernest was a Retired Welder, a veteran of World War II where he was enlisted in the United States Army. Ernest was also a faithful and devoted member of the Salyersville Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Ernest Franklin Powers were conducted at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 1, 2012 from the Salyersville Freewill Baptist Church with Floyd Arnett officiating. Military Rites will be given by the Salyersville D.A.V. Chapter 15 the day of the Funeral Service.  Burial followed in the Collinsworth Cemetery on Mash Fork. Arrangements were under the direction of the Magoffin County Funeral Home.
