Two people were arrested Sunday afternoon by the Salyersville Police Department on drug related charges.
David L. Roberts, 48, of Richmond, and Rose L. McGuire, 20, of Georgetown, were taken into custody at approximately 3:50 p.m. after police found different types of drugs in the vehicle they were traveling in.
According to an arrest citation, police were alerted of a possible drunk driver in downtown Salyersville.
While responding to the call, SPD Chief Matthew Watson and patrolman Rodney Minix located the vehicle, which was driven by McGuire, in the Speedway parking lot.
After searching the vehicle, police found 50 Roxicodone 30 milligram and 59 Roxicodone 15 milligram, along with two and a half two milligram Xanax.
According to the police report, 30 milligram pills remained out of a prescription that called for 180 and the 15 milligram pills were from a prescription that called for 240.
Both prescriptions showed they had been filled three days earlier. The Xanax was in an improper container, police said.
Roberts was charged with first degree trafficking controlled substance, third degree possession controlled substance, prescription controlled substance not in original container, and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
McGuire was charged with first degree trafficking controlled substance, driving under influence, and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
Needles were also found in the vehicle. Both were transported to Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
Police also took possession of $1,362 in cash from the drug bust. Magoffin County Sheriff Bob Jordan and Justin Wireman, with UNITE, assisted the SPD at the scene.
In the event of a guilty plea or conviction, the money taken in Sunday’s arrests will be given to the SPD, which currently has a $10,000 account with money seized during drug raids and arrests.
