Pool restoration on schedule for late May opening
Special to the Independent

Restoration of the Ramey Memorial Park swimming pool is underway, on schedule, and those in charge are looking at a late May completion date.

“If the weather holds out we should have an opening day for the Memorial Day weekend,” Shannon Fadden, president of American Leak Corporation, said.

The Magoffin County Fiscal Court recently contracted with the Mt. Washington company to repair the pool, which includes a new filtration system and a couple special additions.

“The construction of this pool was exceptional,” Fadden added. “The plumbing was the age problem.”
Fadden says most of his company’s work will be done underground, but adds that when completed the pool will look “like a brand new one”.
So far, work on the pool has been centered on the removal of the old to make room for the new.
New tile, a paint job, and repairs to and painting of accompanying structures will add to the overall improved look.
Also, the addition of a 42-foot tall slide is expected to lend extra fun to those visiting the pool this summer.
“It will be fast and fun for the kids,” Fadden said.
The cost of the pool restoration project is $272,000, and had been deemed a necessity before the pool could be used again.
“It had to be done,” park director Ray Keeton said. “Without this work the pool wouldn’t have been usable.”
