Magoffin County’s strong second half made for a respectable conclusion, but not a completely successful one.
After falling behind by double figures in the first half, the Lady Hornets enjoyed a five-point scoring advantage over the final two quarters but eventually lost 59-52 to 57th District regular season champion Sheldon Clark Friday night.
The Lady Cards, finishing regular season district play at 8-0, led by five after the opening quarter and owned a 33-21 advantage heading into the halftime break.
Carla Booth and her game high total of 27 points led Sheldon Clark, which also got 17 points from Katelyn Newsome while improving to 17-4 on the season.
Magoffin County, topped offensively by eighth grader Madison Reed and her 16 points, finished district play with a 4-4 mark.
Amber Minix also reached double figure scoring, hitting for 11 points as the Lady Hornets dipped to 9-13 overall.
Magoffin County, losing for just the second time in its last six outings, also got eight points apiece from Morgan Arnett, Morgan Connelley, and Jamie Castle.
Lindsey Howard scored one point to round out scoring for the Lady Hornets, who will play February 24 in the district tournament against Lawrence County.
