A one-sided second quarter left no doubt for Magoffin County Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets, already with a slim lead, took off on a 27-8 second quarter run, continued their dominating ways in the second half, and rolled to an 83-47 win over visiting Allen Central.
Led by a veteran and a top-notch prospect, Magoffin County used a balanced offense to win for the fifth time in its last seven games.
Senior post player Amber Minix and eighth grade guard Madison Reed led the Lady Hornets with 18 points apiece.
Jamie Castle, with 13 points, and Morgan Arnett, who finished with 11, also reached double figures for Magoffin County, which improved to 10-13 overall.
Lindsey Howard and Kelsey Bentley scored eight and six points respectively while Morgan Connelley hit for a total of three points.
The Lady Hornets led 14-10 after the first quarter and thanks to the stellar second quarter performance, took a 23-point advantage into the halftime break.
Magoffin County used a 25-17 third quarter scoring advantage and outscored the Lady Rebels by five in the fourth period to set the final margin of difference.
Lindsay Watson and Haley Campbell rounded out Lady Hornet scoring with two points apiece.
Sarah Rife and her 14 points led Allen Central, which lost for the third straight time and fell to 5-19 overall.
Magoffin County will wrap up its regular season Friday by playing host to Belfry. The game against the Lady Pirates will also serve as senior night.
