A Magoffin County man was injured Wednesday in a drilling accident at Lacy just off Route 1081 near Flat Fork.
Tyler Lemaster, said by rescue officials to be in his late 20s, suffered multiple injuries after he became entangled in a drilling rig owned by Rhyno Oil Company.
According to Magoffin County Rescue Squad captain Carter Conley, Lemaster suffered possible fractures to his right leg, possible fractures to his right upper arm area, and a severe laceration to the back of his head.
The accident occurred at just after 10 a.m. when his clothing reportedly was snagged by a drilling stem and he was trapped against the stem by a drill chain.
North Magoffin Fire Department personnel freed Lemaster by cutting away some of the trapped clothing and a paramedic provided medical attention.
Additional medical services were provided at the scene by paramedics with Air Methods KY 7, which airlifted Lemaster to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.
Captain Conley reported that Lemaster was conscious and alert prior to transportation. An update on his condition was not available as of presstime.
The Magoffin County Rescue Squad, North Magoffin Fire Department, and DHP Ambulance responded to the accident.
