Running man receives additional charge
Special to the Independent

A Magoffin County man who apparently hoped his foot speed could help him avoid police attempts to serve a warrant is now facing additional charges.

Jonathan Rowe, of Jim Arnett Branch, led Magoffin County Sheriff Bob Jordan on a foot chase Monday near Highway 114 in Salyersville.
Sheriff Jordan had been looking for Rowe for several days in an attempt to serve him with a felony warrant for marijuana cultivation of more than five plants.
According to the sheriff, he spotted Rowe riding in a vehicle that had pulled into the Citizens National Bank parking lot.
Sheriff Jordan said that soon after he spotted Rowe, Rowe spotted him and the race was on.
Rowe, according to Jordan, exited the vehicle he had been riding in and proceeded to run around, behind, and among several nearby businesses.
As the chase began attracting interested onlookers, Rowe proceeded to enter Family Dollar Store where he was eventually taken into custody.
“I guess he thought he could hide from me in there, but it didn’t work out very well for him,” Jordan said.
In addition to the original cultivation charge, Rowe was charged with felony fleeing and evading and was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
