Special to the Independent

Principal Jill Howard, and Assistant Principal Russel Howard, welcomes two of Morehead State University’s Student Teachers to North Magoffin Elementary School.

Natasha Risner and Joetta Patrick have begun their teaching career by completing 18 weeks of instructional training under NME teachers, Minerva Arnett and Melinda Owens.

The student teachers are required to observe 27 hours of classroom instruction, participate with the class for 20 hours and conference  before and after school with the teacher for 24 hours and teach a total of 90 hours.  After 9 weeks the teachers will receive a new class with another cooperating teacher and new students.

During their student teaching, they must complete behavior management plans, lesson plans, assessment plans and design for instruction. They must also complete their philosophy of education along with an analysis of student learning and self reflection.
