Indian Mound Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is proud to present the 2010 Good Citizen award to Gwendolyn Brooke Estep.
Brooke was the honored guest of the DAR chapter for a meeting at Jenny Wiley Lodge last week. She received the Good Citizen pin and certificate. She was accompanied by her mother, Rogetta Estep and her aunt, Gwendolyn Patrick.
Brooke graduated from Magoffin County High School this spring, and is currently enrolled in college pursuing a degree in elementary education. While active in many school activities, Brooke has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. Some of the volunteer activities include “Read Across America,” MCHS Dance Team, and was a leader in the Magoffin Co. Teen Leadership program. Here, she worked in the elementary and middle school, teaching about the dangers of drug abuse, tobacco usage, and sexual abstinence.
She is a member of the Salyersville First Baptist Church, where she has taught Vacation Bible School, worked in the nursery, and has sung in the church choir.
A long-time member of the local Order of Rainbow Girls, she has been honored at the state level by being named “Miss Service,” Grand Love, Grand Faith, Grand Orator, Grand Goodwill Ambassador, and has just been initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star.
Brooke’s parents are Joe and Rogetta Estep.
