The Leslie County Eagles, having the home field advantage, handed the HWMS Hornets their first loss of the season by a score of 8-0.
While the Eagles scored only on their opening drive it was enough to keep the Hornets at bay. Unable to get the ball rolling on offense, the Hornets could not recover from their opponent’s one successful drive.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Hornets seemed to hold their own after allowing their opponent to score only once. The Hornet defense forced four recorded fumbles but was to no avail.
The HWMS coaching staff seemed pleased with the overall performance of the Hornets.
“No one likes to lose,” Coach Campbell said. “But with a number of factors influencing our loss, such as learning a new offense and having a new coaching staff, we are well pleased with the team’s overall performance. They played with a lot of intensity and showed no sign of quitting.”
The coaching staff urges any middle school students that are interested in being a part of this program to come out and play. “We are trying to make this Magoffin County football program a championship contender,” Campbell said.
The HWMS Hornets would like to invite everyone out to their next home game as they take on Estill County Thursday, August 19.
