He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University (B.S., 1956). After teaching two years in Magoffin County, KY, he spent two years in the Army in New Jersey and the Pentagon (1957-59). He went on to earn his Masters in Education from American University (1961) and his Doctorate in Education from George Washington University (1971).

He was born on June 2, 1948 in Salyersville, Kentucky to Conward and Edna (Bailey) Watson, both of whom are deceased. He married Lola Jeanne Byrne on January 15, 1975, and she survives.
He is survived by 2 sons, Tom (Vikki) Schoffner of Granville, Ronnie (Brandy) Schoffner of Wharton, Ohio, and a daughter, Mary (Dave) Spradlin of Lucasville, Ohio. Along with 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
Johnnie Daniel Patrick age 74 of Lick Creek Road, Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born August 18, 1939 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Buford and Myrtle Coffey Patrick. He is survived by his wife Beatrice Patrick, two brothers Leondus and Ashland B.
Janice Lynn Marshall Risner, age 52, a resident of Gardner Trail in Salyersville, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Risner was born June 2, 1961 in Paintsville, Kentucky the daughter of Paul Marshall and the late Virginia Carpenter Marshall. Also, preceding her in death is husband, Willie Risner; sister, Charlotte Marshall; and brother, David Marshall.
Mrs. Risner was a homemaker and devoted family member and friend.
Judy Litteral Perkins age 54 of Urbana, Ohio formerly of Magoffin County, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Hospice of Dayton Care Center in Dayton, Ohio. She was born June 10, 1959 in Paintsville, Kentucky to the late James Earl Litteral and Junella Litteral who survives. She is also survived by her husband Bill Perkins, two daughters Heather and Holly Perkins, sister Joyce Foust, grandmother Arlene Blair, grandchildren Garrett McGinnis, Carstan Perkins, Darius McGinnis, and Trenton McGinnis.
Shirley Faye Poe Minix age 74 of Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Salyersville Health Care Center in Salyersville, Kentucky. She was born April 23, 1939 in Magoffin County, Kentucky to the late Frank and Maude Minix Poe. She is also preceded in death by her husband Charles Minix. Shirley was a homemaker and a member of the Carver United Baptist Church.

Dewey Simpkins, age 83, a resident of Magoffin Manor in Salyersville, Kentucky; passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky.
Mr. Simpkins was born January 7, 1931 in Salyersville, Kentucky the son of the late John and Della Poe Simpkins. Also, preceding him in death is son, Jerry Simpkins; sisters, Marie Poe, Bernice Short, Rose Arnett, Myrtle Rice, Juanita Simpkins, Polly Arnett; brothers, Thomas Simpkins, Charlie Reed, and Ed Reed.
Beulah Paulyne Gibson Conley, 90, widow of Oliver Elmon Conley, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 23, 2014. The oldest child of the late Clyde Egbert Gibson and Hester May “Hettie” Mitchell Dobson, she was born March 21, 1923 in Van Wert, Iowa. She married Mr. Conley December 8, 1945 and they moved to Lexington after he retired from his Air Force career. Mrs. Conley was a retired employee of the Blue Grass Army Depot and a former Arby’s Restaurant employee.
